How to Reach Sikkim from Bangalore

The fastest and most convenient way in for most travellers.

• Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is the nearest airport, connected to major Indian cities.
• From Bagdogra, it's roughly a 4-5 hour scenic drive to Gangtok.
• Book a private or shared taxi from the airport — most Sikkim tour packages already include this transfer.
• A good option for families, honeymoon couples and shorter trips.

Slower and more scenic, and easier on the budget.

• New Jalpaiguri (NJP), near Siliguri, is the nearest railhead.
• Long-distance trains connect NJP to cities across India — for example, the Bengaluru-Tinsukia SF Express and Bengaluru-Guwahati SF Express from the south.
• From NJP, the final leg to Gangtok continues by road, the same route used from Bagdogra.
• Many package tours combine the train with a road transfer for a cost-effective trip.

Doable, but really only practical for the final mountain stretch.

• A full road trip from a distant city can run 2,500+ km and suits only experienced long-distance drivers.
• Most travellers fly or take the train to Bagdogra or NJP, then hire a private cab or shared taxi for the mountain drive into Sikkim.
• That final stretch is the highlight — winding roads, Teesta River views, tea gardens, waterfalls and hill towns along the way.
