Northeast India has a habit of humbling people who think they already know what beautiful looks like. Meghalaya — the Abode of Clouds — tends to do it on day one. Tripjyada’s 6-day Meghalaya and Assam tour starts in the Scotland of the East and ends at one of Hinduism’s most sacred temples — and in between, it takes you to places that most travellers from the rest of India have never seen and never forget. The Dawki River, where the water is so clear that boats appear to float in mid-air above the riverbed. Mawlynnong — the village that kept Asia’s cleanest title for years not through any special government effort but simply because cleanliness is built into Khasi culture. Cherrapunji’s Nohkalikai Falls dropping 340 metres into a gorge that seems to disappear into the earth. And then there is Jowai — the part of this itinerary that separates Tripjyada’s tour from every standard Meghalaya package. Krang Suri Waterfall near Jowai has water so impossibly blue it looks filtered. It is not. The ancient Nartiang Monoliths in the same district are among the most significant megalithic sites in all of Northeast India, built by the Jaintia Kings and still standing with remarkable presence. Most tour operators skip Jowai entirely. We do not. The tour closes in Guwahati — a city worth a full day of its own — with Kamakhya Temple, the Brahmaputra, and Umananda island. Six days. No permit is required for Indian citizens to visit Meghalaya or Assam. Both are open states with no Inner Line Permit requirement, unlike Arunachal Pradesh or Sikkim. Simply carry a valid government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar card, Voter ID or passport) for hotel check-ins and identification.
October to May is the ideal period for this tour. October to February brings clear skies, cool temperatures (10°C to 22°C in Shillong) and the most transparent water at Dawki — the river is at its clearest from November to April. March to May is pleasant too, while July and August fall in peak monsoon, when Meghalaya receives some of the heaviest rainfall in the world, making roads slippery and views obscured.
Krang Suri Waterfall is located near Jowai in the Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, approximately 3 hours from Shillong. It is known for its extraordinarily blue-green water — a colour so vivid it appears artificial but is entirely natural, caused by mineral deposits and the depth of the pool below the falls.
Yes — between November and April, the Umngot River at Dawki is genuinely that transparent. The river runs over a flat sandy bed and the water's extreme clarity makes the boats appear to float in mid-air above the riverbed. This is not photography manipulation — it's one of the cleanest rivers in India.
Guwahati has excellent connectivity from across India. Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) has direct flights from Delhi (2.5 hrs), Kolkata (50 min), Mumbai (3.5 hrs), Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and other major cities. Guwahati Railway Station is also well connected by long-distance trains from most major Indian cities.
This package starts from ₹16,999 per person for a group of 6 and ₹21,999 per person for a group of 2. The price includes all hotel accommodation for 5 nights in Shillong (4 nights) and Guwahati (1 night), all meals throughout (breakfast, lunch and dinner), private vehicle transfers, and a local guide.

Bookings Made 60 to 30 Days Prior to Tour Date An advance payment of 30% of the total tour cost + 5% GST is required at the time of booking. The balance amount must be paid as per the company payment schedule communicated at the time of confirmation. Bookings Made 20 Days Prior to Tour Date An advance payment of 30% of the total tour cost + 5% GST is required at the time of booking. Upon issuance of the hotel confirmation voucher (within 3 business days), an additional 20% of the total tour cost + 5% GST must be paid. The remaining balance amount must be settled on the day of arrival.
