Tour Highlights

  • 🌊 Umngot River, Dawki — The Glass River of India The Umngot is not a metaphor. The water here is genuinely so clear that the boats floating on it appear to hover above the riverbed. The slow boat ride across this river is one of the most quietly spectacular experiences available anywhere in India — and one of the most photographed. See it once and you will understand why.

🌉 Double-Decker Living Root Bridge, Nongriat — Nature’s Greatest Engineering For hundreds of years, the Khasi people have trained the aerial roots of rubber fig trees across river gorges, creating living bridges that grow stronger with each passing decade. The Double-Decker bridge at Nongriat — two root bridges stacked one above the other — is the finest example of this tradition on earth. The trek to reach it is demanding. The experience of standing on it is unforgettable.

💧 Nohkalikai Falls — India’s Tallest Plunge Waterfall At over 340 metres, Nohkalikai is the tallest plunge waterfall in India. It drops off the edge of the Cherrapunji plateau in a single, unbroken sheet into a pool of startling turquoise far below. The viewpoint gives you the full scale of it — and the scale of it, the first time you see it, is genuinely staggering.

🏘️ Mawlynnong — Asia’s Cleanest Village Every path swept. Every garden blooming. Bamboo dustbins at every corner. Mawlynnong is a community-maintained model of what a village can look like when its people collectively decide to take pride in their home. It is charming, peaceful, and a genuinely moving example of collective care. The Sky View Tower at the village edge is the cherry on top.

🦏 Kaziranga National Park — Where Rhinos Rule A UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the world’s largest concentration of the great one-horned rhinoceros, Kaziranga is one of India’s finest wildlife experiences. The morning jeep safari takes you across flood plains and through elephant grass where rhinos, wild elephants, and a remarkable variety of birds are encountered at close range. It is the kind of wildlife moment that reminds you why these places must be protected.

🏔️ Laitlum Canyon — Meghalaya’s Hidden Panorama Most visitors to Meghalaya never find Laitlum. That is exactly what makes it special. The canyon opens suddenly from the plateau edge in a vast sweep of terraced valley and layered green gorge. There are no crowds here, no ticket counters — just you, the wind, and one of the most dramatic natural viewpoints in the entire northeast.

🕌 Kamakhya Temple, Guwahati — One of India’s Most Sacred Shrines Perched atop Nilachal Hill and dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya, this temple is one of the most important Shakti Peethas in the Hindu tradition. The early morning visit, as the mist still hangs over the Brahmaputra below, carries a spiritual weight that surprises even travellers who don’t consider themselves religious.

🧗 Mawsmai & Arwah Caves — Underground Meghalaya The limestone cave systems of Cherrapunji are ancient, atmospheric, and genuinely fascinating. Mawsmai Cave winds through extraordinary rock formations in near darkness, while Arwah Cave holds fossils embedded in its walls — a reminder that this entire landscape was once beneath a prehistoric ocean.

🎸 Shillong — India’s Rock Capital Shillong is the only hill station in India with a genuine live music scene. The city’s love affair with guitar-driven music is deep and authentic, the food at the local markets is excellent, and the combination of colonial architecture, pine-covered hills, and youthful energy makes it one of the most enjoyable urban stops on any Northeast India itinerary.
