Itinerary

  • Approx. 125 km | 4-5 hrs
Your Tripjyada representative meets you at Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station and the Himalayan adventure begins. The drive to Gangtok winds through lush green valleys along the sparkling Teesta River one of the most scenic approach roads in northeast India. Check in, freshen up, and spend the evening on MG Marg Gangtok’s beloved car-free promenade lined with cafes, prayer wheels, and mountain views.
  • Overnight: Gangtok | Meals: Dinner

📍 Approx. 55 km one way | 2 hrs

A morning drive to the sacred Tsomgo (Changu) Lake at 12,310 ft — a stunning glacial lake that changes colour with the seasons and holds deep spiritual significance for the local Sikkimese people. From there, visit the legendary Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, where soldiers and pilgrims alike seek blessings from a shrine that has protected this high-altitude border for decades. Those with the appetite for more can opt for Nathu La Pass at 14,140 ft on the historic Indo-China border (subject to permit availability and additional cost). Return to Gangtok by evening.

🏨 Overnight: Gangtok | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

📍 Approx. 118 km | 5-6 hrs

Leave Gangtok behind and head north into the heart of Sikkim. The drive to Lachung passes through dramatic mountain gorges, crossing the roaring Seven Sisters Waterfalls, the panoramic Singhik Viewpoint, and the thundering Nag Waterfall — one waterfall more spectacular than the last. Arrive in Lachung at 8,800 ft — a small, serene Himalayan village where the nights are cold, the stars are brilliant, and tomorrow holds something very special.

🏨 Overnight: Lachung | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

📍 Yumthang: 11,800 ft | Zero Point: 15,000 ft

Drive into the legendary Yumthang Valley — Sikkim’s famous Valley of Flowers. Come spring the meadows explode in rhododendrons and wildflowers. Come winter they turn silver and stark. In every season the combination of glacial river, open meadows, and snow peaks rising on all sides is completely breathtaking. The adventurous can push to Zero Point where the road ends and the Himalayas take over in a vast, untouched snowfield that feels like the edge of the world. Return to Lachung by afternoon.

🏨 Overnight: Lachung | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

📍 Approx. 118 km | 5-6 hrs

A relaxed morning in Lachung before the return drive to Gangtok. The familiar roads feel different going south — the mountains shift perspective, the light changes, and small details missed on the way up reveal themselves on the way back. Arrive in Gangtok by afternoon. Evening free for shopping at Lal Bazaar, a final Sikkimese meal, or a quiet rooftop dinner watching the city lights settle against the dark mountain sky.

🏨 Overnight: Gangtok | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

📍 Approx. 98 km | 3-4 hrs

The tour shifts gear beautifully today as you leave Sikkim and cross into Darjeeling — the Queen of the Hills. The drive winds through tea garden country, with the emerald rows of Darjeeling’s famous estates stretching across every hillside. Stop at the stunning Lover’s Meet viewpoint where the Teesta and Rangeet rivers merge in the valley below. Arrive in Darjeeling, check in, and spend the evening strolling along Mall Road with a freshly brewed cup of the world’s finest tea in hand.

🏨 Overnight: Darjeeling | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

📍 Early start — 4 AM wake-up call

The alarm goes off at 4 AM and it is absolutely worth it. Drive to Tiger Hill to watch the sunrise paint the Kanchenjunga range in shades of gold and amber — one of the most spectacular natural moments available anywhere in India. From there the day unfolds through Ghoom Monastery (one of Sikkim’s oldest), the Batasia Loop spiral railway, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, and the Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park — home to the rare Snow Leopard and Red Panda. End with a walk through the tea estates and the serene Japanese Peace Pagoda.

🏨 Overnight: Darjeeling | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

📍 Approx. 49 km | 1.5 hrs

A peaceful day trip to Mirik — one of Darjeeling’s most charming offbeat destinations. The drive through tea gardens and pine forests sets a gentle mood. At Mirik, spend time at the beautiful Mirik Lake where pedal boats drift through calm water surrounded by gardens and flower beds. Browse the famous Pashupati Market at the Nepal border for local spices, handicrafts, and bargain shopping. Return to Darjeeling by evening.

🏨 Overnight: Darjeeling | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

📍 Approx. 70 km | 2.5-3 hrs

After a final Darjeeling breakfast — with one last cup of that first-flush tea — check out and begin the drive back down to Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station. Eight days of glacial lakes, high mountain passes, flower valleys, sacred monasteries, sunrise over Kanchenjunga, and tea garden evenings — all packed into memory and ready to be relived.

Tour Highlights

🏔️ Gurudongmar Lake — The Sacred High-Altitude Wonder Standing at 17,100 ft, Gurudongmar is one of the highest lakes on earth and one of the most spiritually significant. Sacred to both Buddhists and Sikhs, the lake sits in a vast, treeless landscape where the silence is total and the scale of the Himalayas becomes impossible to ignore. This is the single most powerful experience on the entire itinerary — and for many travellers, it becomes the highlight of every trip they’ve ever taken.

🌺 Yumthang Valley — Where the Himalayas Bloom Called the Valley of Flowers for good reason, Yumthang transforms into a sea of colour from March to May as Himalayan rhododendrons, primulas, and poppies carpet the meadow floor. Even outside peak bloom season, the valley’s combination of glacial river, open meadows, and mountain peaks on all sides makes it one of the most scenic drives in the entire northeast.

❄️ Zero Point — The End of the Road At approximately 15,000 ft, Zero Point is where the motorable road genuinely ends and the high Himalayas take over. Snow fields stretch in every direction, the air is thin and cold, and the sense of being somewhere truly remote and untouched is unlike anything available on the standard tourist circuit.

🚶 Pelling Skywalk — Walk Above the Clouds A glass-floored bridge suspended over a deep valley with direct views of Mt. Kanchenjunga on clear days. The Pelling Skywalk is one of the most talked-about new attractions in Sikkim — thrilling underfoot and deeply beautiful ahead.

🛕 Pemayangtse Monastery & Rabdentse Ruins One of the oldest and most important monasteries in Sikkim, Pemayangtse dates back to the 17th century and houses extraordinary religious artefacts. Just minutes away, the atmospheric ruins of the ancient Sikkimese capital of Rabdentse offer a quietly moving walk through history.

💧 Khecheopalri Lake — The Wish-Fulfilling Lake Hidden in the West Sikkim forests, this sacred lake is considered a “wish-fulfilling” body of water by local communities. What makes it visually remarkable is that the lake’s surface is kept completely free of fallen leaves — continuously cleaned by the birds that circle it. Peaceful, mystical, and genuinely unlike anywhere else.

🌅 Tiger Hill Sunrise — Kanchenjunga at Dawn The 4 AM alarm is absolutely worth it. Watching the sun rise over the third-highest peak on earth, as the snow fields shift from silver to amber to gold, is one of those rare travel experiences that lives up to — and often exceeds — every expectation.

🚂 Darjeeling Heritage — Toy Trains, Tea & Colonial Charm The UNESCO-listed Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the Victorian-era architecture, the Ghoom Monastery, the Batasia Loop — Darjeeling is a destination that feels like it exists in its own gentle pocket of time. Add the Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park, home to the Snow Leopard and Red Panda, and you have a full, rich final chapter to the journey.

🍵 Authentic Darjeeling Tea at the Source Sitting in a tea garden cafe with a fresh-brewed cup of first-flush Darjeeling tea, surrounded by the very bushes it came from, at 6,700 ft — it is one of those small, simple pleasures that somehow feels like the most luxurious thing you’ve done all week.

🙏 Spiritual Depth at Every Turn From the prayer flags of Gangtok to the chanting halls of Pemayangtse, from the sacred shores of Gurudongmar to the meditative stillness of Khecheopalri — this tour carries a spiritual undercurrent that surprises even travellers who didn’t come looking for it.
