Yes. Lachen officially reopened for tourists on 8th March 2026 after being closed since the catastrophic Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) of October 2023, which severely damaged roads and infrastructure in the Teesta Valley. Permits for Gurudongmar Lake are being issued again, and Tripjyada tracks road conditions closely before confirming departures.
North Sikkim requires a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) for all Indian citizens — it is not open without a permit. Gurudongmar Lake additionally requires a Protected Area Permit (PAP). Foreign nationals are not permitted in North Sikkim or at Gurudongmar Lake at all. Tripjyada arranges both permits as part of your package.
Gurudongmar Lake sits at 5,183 metres (17,001 feet) above sea level — roughly the same altitude as Everest Base Camp. Altitude-related symptoms including headaches, breathlessness, nausea and dizziness are a genuine risk at this elevation. Tripjyada's itinerary includes an acclimatisation night in Lachen before the drive up, and we recommend staying hydrated throughout.
North Sikkim has two distinct best seasons. Mid-March to mid-May is the rhododendron blooming season in Yumthang Valley — over 30 varieties bloom simultaneously across the valley floor in red, pink, purple, white and yellow. This is the most visually spectacular time to visit. October to December offers clear winter skies and occasional snowfall instead.
Zero Point (also called Yumesamdong) sits at 4,660 metres (15,288 feet) and is the point where the motorable road from Lachung ends. Beyond Zero Point, there are only snowfields and the Tibet border. The landscape at Zero Point is stark, windswept and extraordinary, and yes, it is included in this itinerary as part of the Yumthang Valley excursion, weather and road conditions permitting.
Included: Accommodation with breakfast and dinner throughout, a private vehicle for all sightseeing and transfers, all permits (Inner Line Permit and Restricted Area Permit) and driver expenses, and a knowledgeable local guide. Airfare/train tickets, entry fees, adventure activities, personal expenses, travel insurance and meals not mentioned are excluded.
Note:- Valid ID proof (Voter ID / Passport / Driving Licence). PAN Card & Aadhar Card is not acceptable. In case of a child below 18 years bring Aadhar or Birth Certificate. 4 Passport sized photographs of each person.
Bookings Made 60 to 30 Days Prior to Tour Date An advance payment of 30% of the total tour cost + 5% GST is required at the time of booking. The balance amount must be paid as per the company payment schedule communicated at the time of confirmation. Bookings Made 20 Days Prior to Tour Date An advance payment of 30% of the total tour cost + 5% GST is required at the time of booking. Upon issuance of the hotel confirmation voucher (within 3 business days), an additional 20% of the total tour cost + 5% GST must be paid. The remaining balance amount must be settled on the day of arrival.
Cancellation has to be sent to us by Mail/Fax. 30 Days from The Date of Booking: Only Communication Charges Rs.2000 Per Person. 21-30 Days Prior To Departure: 25% Of Tour Cost 11-20 Days Prior To Departure: 50% Of Tour Cost 10 Days Prior To Departure: Full Cancellation Above are the cancellation rules but we will put our best possible effort to minimise the cancellation charges.
