Yumthang Valley sits at roughly 3,600 m (about 12,000 ft) in North Sikkim, ringed by snow peaks and fed by the Lachung Chu river. Known as the "Valley of Flowers," it looks markedly different depending on the season.

From late February through June, the valley fills with more than 24 species of rhododendron alongside primulas, Himalayan poppies and iris — the best window for photography and nature walks.
From December to February the valley turns into a snow-covered landscape, with wooden bridges and the river icing over. Roads can be unpredictable in heavy snow, so local guidance matters.
The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB) in West Bengal. From there, the road route runs through Gangtok to Lachung, a small village that serves as the gateway to the valley; the final stretch from Lachung to Yumthang takes about 1.5 hours.
Yumthang Valley itself has no hotels, as it's a protected high-altitude ecological zone. Most travellers base themselves in Lachen (about 72 km away) or in Gangtok, both used as jumping-off points for North Sikkim.
