Tsomgo Lake Sikkim: The Glacial Goddess
Tsomgo, locally known as Changu Lake, sits at a high altitude of 12,313 ft in the eastern Himalayas and remains the crown jewel of Sikkim. In April 2026, Changu Lake is in its most dramatic phase, altering from pearl-white to deep turquoise blue.
Why is Sikkim’s Tsomgo a Must-Visit in 2026?
- Seraphic Rhododendron Bloom: April sees peak rhododendron blooms in Sikkim. From the road to Tsomgo from Gangtok to the surrounding valleys of East Sikkim, you can spot clusters of colorful rhododendrons clustered everywhere.
- Easy Road Access: Sikkim’s Tsomgo is easy to access from Gangtok. Just a 2-hour ride in your tourist cab from the capital city of Sikkim is perfect if you don’t want a 10-hour journey.

If Tsomgo is about the drama of the heights, Arunachal’s Sangti Valley is about the peace of the depths. Located away in West Kameng near Dirang, Sangti has shifted from a “hidden secret” to a 2026 bucket-list essential as travelers are calling it the “Switzerland of the East.”
Why Arunachal’s Sangti Valley is a Must-Visit in 2026?
- “Slow Travel” Movement: While Tsomgo is an adventurous day trip, Sangti Valley is a serene experience. Sangti is all about camping by the riverside, watching endangered black-necked cranes, and walking across fruity orange & kiwi orchards.
